Here’s all your NFL news from around the league for 9/21, pulled together from some of the most reliable sources in the game. Everything you need in one snapshot, so you don’t have to spend your night searching for it yourself. My mission is simple: make your life easier and leave the hard work to me. Now enjoy!
🐻 Chicago Bears
- Caleb Williams avoided a major hamstring injury, but Ben Johnson called him week-to-week, said he likely will miss time and doesn't expect him to practice this week. Chicago hasn't officially ruled him out for Week 3, with Tyson Bagent next up. Medical analysts have raised mobility/reinjury concerns.(Adam Schefter, Tom Pelissero, Jeff Mueller)
- Kalif Raymond leads Chicago with 14 targets and a 21.9% target share through two games. Luther Burden sits at 18.8%, while Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet are each at just 6.3%. Loveland's blocking responsibilities may have contributed to his reduced routes against Minnesota.
🌵 Arizona Cardinals
- Jeremiyah Love handled 63% of the RB opportunities before Tyler Allgeier exited in the third quarter and received every inside-the-10 carry. Allgeier was used more heavily on receiving routes, making this a backfield worth continuing to monitor.
- Marvin Harrison Jr. remained on the field for 90.3% of routes despite his disappearing act in Week 2. Mike LaFleur cautioned against overreacting because of the passing conditions, so the lack of targets doesn't appear to be explained by a loss of playing time.
🍑 Atlanta Falcons
- Michael Penix Jr. has officially been named Atlanta's Week 3 starter. Penix split first-team reps while working back from ACL reconstruction and has now been deemed ready. Tua Tagovailoa's oblique is improving, but Penix gets the start. (Ian Rapoport, Adam Schefter)
🐦⬛ Baltimore Ravens
- Zay Flowers has a "good shot" to return in Week 3, according to Jesse Minter. That's important for Rashod Bateman after his targets per route jumped from 3.7% in Week 1 to 25% with Flowers sidelined.
🐾 Carolina Panthers
- Jonathon Brooks is week-to-week after aggravating his groin injury and is seeking second opinions. That puts Chuba Hubbard in position for an elevated role if Brooks can't go in Week 3. (Tom Pelissero)
🟤 Cleveland Browns
- Todd Monken said Deshaun Watson is a player who can continue to grow. It's encouraging coach speak, but there was no accompanying announcement of a role or workload change. (Fred Greetham)
⭐ Dallas Cowboys
- Javonte Williams handled 80% of Dallas' RB opportunities, half of the RB routes, every inside-the-10 carry and 69% of third-down work. That's some serious high-value usage.
- Ryan Flournoy ran a route on 83.3% of dropbacks and operated as the primary slot, while Jake Ferguson's route rate was only 63.9% despite scoring twice.
🏔️ Denver Broncos
- J.K. Dobbins is reportedly "good" after Sunday's hamstring scare. While he was out, Jonah Coleman handled 82% of the RB opportunities, 46% of routes and all of the inside-the-10 work with R.J. Harvey inactive. (Tom Pelissero)
- Jaylen Waddle ran only 68.8% of Denver's routes but was targeted on a massive 45.5% of them. The limited route participation deserves monitoring, but the involvement when actually running routes certainly wasn't the problem.
🧀 Green Bay Packers
- Jayden Reed's injury is now being described as a back injury rather than the originally reported neck issue. Reed left after only two snaps, and Green Bay is still determining treatment and a recovery timetable. (Adam Schefter, Jeff Mueller)
- Tucker Kraft played 100% of the snaps following expectations that his workload could be managed. Different charting sources produced conflicting route percentages, but the important takeaway is that Kraft remained heavily involved.
- MarShawn Lloyd was immediately benched after a fourth-quarter fumble. Before the mistake, Lloyd had handled 53% of the RB opportunities and every inside-the-10 rush. Kaleb Johnson and potentially Chris Brooks become names to monitor depending on what happens next.
🐂 Houston Texans
- There was no new update on Nico Collins' hamstring. His status remains unresolved heading into Week 3.
- David Montgomery could be a value riser after a difficult Week 2 matchup, with Indianapolis, Dallas and Tennessee coming up on the schedule. The upcoming stretch could provide a much better environment. (Dwain McFarland)
- Dalton Schultz has quietly climbed to second among tight ends in targets. That's an early-season opportunity signal worth monitoring as we get a larger sample.
🐎 Indianapolis Colts
- Alec Pierce is week-to-week after aggravating the same heel that required offseason surgery. Pierce went from the medical tent → cart → ruled OUT → negative X-rays → boot and crutches while additional evaluation continued. (Mike Garafolo, Shane Steichen, Jeff Mueller)
- Josh Downs could be one of the biggest beneficiaries if Pierce misses time. Downs ran routes on 90.9% of dropbacks with a 30% targets-per-route rate, while Laquon Treadwell took 96% of the routes after Pierce exited.
- Jonathan Taylor continues to have an elite role: 93.3% of RB opportunities, 69.7% of routes, every inside-the-10 rushing attempt and all of the two-minute RB work.
- Tyler Warren isn't just producing touchdowns. He ran routes on 78.8% of dropbacks with a 26.9% targets-per-route rate—excellent underlying involvement for the rookie TE.
🐆 Jacksonville Jaguars
- Parker Washington continues to demand our attention. He ran 90.3% of routes while posting a massive 42.9% targets-per-route rate and 3.50 yards per route run. This is becoming much more than a one-week story.
- Bhayshul Tuten handled 57.7% of Jacksonville's RB opportunities and half of the inside-the-10 attempts. Chris Rodriguez Jr. was next at 23.1%, with the remaining backs handling more situational work.
- Travis Hunter ran a route on just 6.5% of dropbacks. Meanwhile, Jakobi Meyers was at 93.5%, Brenton Strange 80.6% and Brian Thomas Jr. 74.2%.
🏹 Kansas City Chiefs
- Kenneth Walker III dominated the Chiefs' Week 2 backfield, but Andy Reid now says Emmett Johnson should receive more snaps to take some of the workload off Walker. That's something to monitor after Walker controlled the opportunities, routes and inside-the-10 work.
- Xavier Worthy landed on his surgically repaired right shoulder, was evaluated and then returned to the game and caught another pass. No new injury diagnosis was established. (Jeff Mueller)
☠️ Las Vegas Raiders
- Brock Bowers is expected to practice this week. Klint Kubiak said Bowers was very close to playing Sunday and looked good, although his Week 3 return hasn't officially been confirmed. (Adam Schefter)
- Tre Tucker has drawn 11 targets for 146 yards through two games. The early involvement stacks up favorably with several notable receivers and gives us another reason to keep monitoring his role as the season develops.
⚡ Los Angeles Chargers
- David Njoku and Charlie Kolar have both been placed on IR and will miss at least four games. Later reporting identified Njoku's injury as a fibula issue rather than the initially reported knee injury. (Adam Schefter, Kris Rhim, Jeff Mueller)
- That creates an immediate opportunity for Oronde Gadsden II, although exactly how much of the vacated role he inherits remains to be seen. (Kris Rhim)
🐏 Los Angeles Rams
- 🚨 Puka Nacua is officially INACTIVE tonight against the Giants. Nacua went through an abbreviated pregame workout but couldn't prove healthy enough to play through the groin/hip issue. (Mark Garcia)
- Jordan Whittington is also inactive, leaving the Rams extremely thin at wide receiver. Davante Adams becomes the clear focal point, with Tutu Atwell, Konata Mumpfield and Xavier Smith competing for snaps behind him. The personnel shortage could also push Los Angeles toward heavier 12- and 13-personnel packages. (Mark Garcia)
🐬 Miami Dolphins
- Caleb Douglas' ankle/foot injury remains unresolved. He was spotted in a right-foot boot after getting hurt while blocking, and Jeff Hafley said it was still too early to determine the severity. (Jeff Mueller)
- Before Miami pulled its starters, De'Von Achane handled 81% of RB opportunities, 87% of routes, 75% of the inside-the-10 rushes and all of the two-minute RB work. That's about as complete a role as you can ask for.
🟣 Minnesota Vikings
- Kyler Murray has cleared concussion protocol and will start Week 3. (Adam Schefter)
- Aaron Jones is sore after handling 24 carries, and Kevin O'Connell said Minnesota is evaluating what a sustainable weekly workload should look like. No specific reduction has been announced.
⚜️ New Orleans Saints
- Alvin Kamara handled 57.7% of RB opportunities, while Travis Etienne was at 38.5%. Interestingly, Etienne had the larger passing-down role with 33.3% of routes and 72.7% of the two-minute RB snaps.
- Starting LT Kelvin Banks Jr. suffered a severe high-ankle sprain and is expected to undergo surgery. His absence is currently considered indefinite. (Ian Rapoport, Jeff Mueller)
🗽 New York Giants
- 🚨 Jaxson Dart left Monday night's game with a leg injury and headed to the locker room. Tom Christ, PT, DPT, observed that Dart's left knee was hit from the outside, forcing it into valgus and potentially stressing the MCL. Because Dart's foot was barely planted, Christ believes that may have reduced the stress on the ACL, but this is medical analysis—not a confirmed diagnosis. (Tom Christ, PT, DPT)
- Jaxson Dart has now posted a top-12 fantasy QB finish in nine of his 13 starts. That's becoming a pretty difficult fantasy trend to ignore.
✈️ New York Jets
- Mason Taylor's thumb injury remains worth monitoring. Jeff Mueller is waiting for more clarity on the severity, but if a fracture forces Taylor to miss time, Kenyon Sadiq could become a very interesting opportunity play if the coaching staff gives him the vacated role. (Jeff Mueller)
🦅 Philadelphia Eagles
- Dallas Goedert has an MCL sprain and is expected to miss a few weeks. Zach Ertz has since signed to Philadelphia's practice squad, although that doesn't guarantee him a specific role. (Ian Rapoport, Adam Schefter, Jeff Mueller)
- Saquon Barkley is still awaiting clarity after his stinger. He returned to Sunday's game but was scheduled for an MRI, and no result had been reported during today's window. (Ian Rapoport)
🟡 Pittsburgh Steelers
- Michael Pittman's Week 3 status remains uncertain because of his foot injury. Mike McCarthy said he wasn't sure whether Pittman would be able to play against Cincinnati.
- DK Metcalf ran a full complement of routes and commanded a 25% target share despite the disappointing fantasy result. Christian Gonzalez's coverage provided difficult matchup context, while the back-end WR2 rest-of-season assessment remains an analyst projection. (Joe Metz)
🌉 San Francisco 49ers
- Demarcus Robinson has a high-ankle sprain and could land on IR. After Robinson exited, Deebo Samuel's route participation climbed to 87%, making his usage particularly interesting if Robinson misses multiple weeks. (Nick Wagoner)
- Mike Evans' hip injury isn't believed to be serious, but Kyle Shanahan said it will need to be managed this week. Evans reportedly could have returned late Sunday if San Francisco needed him. (Adam Schefter)
- Don't let Christian McCaffrey's full-game usage percentage fool you. Before the starters began coming out, CMC handled 70% of RB opportunities, 66.7% of routes and every inside-the-10 rushing attempt.
- George Kittle's workload continues to ramp up following his Achilles recovery, with another increase in route participation and strong targets-per-route involvement. (Jeff Mueller)
🌊 Seattle Seahawks
- Jadarian Price's shoulder injury appears to have avoided the worst. X-rays were negative and Mike Macdonald said the injury didn't appear serious. (Brady Henderson, Gregg Bell)
- The backfield usage is worth remembering: Price had 65% of RB opportunities before leaving, and Emanuel Wilson then handled 79% after the injury while running 75% of the routes. Wilson is the name to watch if Price can't go.
- Sam Darnold is expected to practice in some capacity Wednesday as he works back from his glute injury. (Mike Macdonald)
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba's monster performance came with legitimate underlying volume. Rashid Shaheed ran 81.5% of routes, while Cooper Kupp was down at 51.9%, giving us another receiving hierarchy to monitor. (Adam Schefter)
🏴☠️ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Jalen McMillan still isn't completely back. Todd Bowles said he's healthy enough to rotate in but hasn't reached the point where Tampa Bay is ready to restore his full workload. (Todd Bowles, Jeff Mueller)
- Baker Mayfield received attention from trainers around his right pec/shoulder. Jeff Mueller wondered whether something there could be contributing to Emeka Egbuka's catchable-air-yards issues, but there's currently no diagnosed Mayfield injury or established connection between the two. (Jeff Mueller)
⚔️ Tennessee Titans
- Carnell Tate's involvement is becoming something to monitor. The No. 4 pick has opened his career with just three catches for 27 yards followed by four for 38.
🪖 Washington Commanders
- Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow again. X-rays were negative, additional imaging followed and Washington is consulting specialists. He's expected to miss time, with Marcus Mariota starting Week 3. Any discussion of surgery or specific recovery windows remains medical analysis rather than a team-confirmed plan. (Ian Rapoport, Adam Schefter, Jeff Mueller)
- Jacory Croskey-Merritt stopped receiving snaps once Washington fell behind and became more pass-heavy, but there's no evidence that he was benched for disciplinary or performance reasons. Rachaad White handled all of the inside-the-10 RB rushes, 93% of third downs and 61.9% of the routes.
- The quarterback change also puts Terry McLaurin and the rest of Washington's receiving hierarchy under the microscope heading into Week 3.
